Do you think that Gov. Sarah Palin’s first amendment rights were threatened by the media during the presidential campaign? Looking back I believe that the first amendment protects the press and allows them to discuss and report about Palin’s comments. I believe as a public figure what she says is free game to everyone. I don’t think she could say the statements written about her were defaming or libel. Although reports about Palin seemed to be primarily negative, she seems to be under the assumption that the press is obligated to report positive information about an individual.
This article kinds of go along with the discussion in class about the right of the public to receive ideas. I assert that Palin has the right to speak about ideas that are important to her, but as a political candidate the press is allowed to question her speech. Is this a true statement?
